One of the state’s most highly respected City Managers, Darin Atteberry, will be launching Northern Colorado’s premiere road race.

FORT COLLINS, COLO. (August 20, 2019) – the FORTitude 10K, today announced that the Fort Collins City Manager Darin Atteberry will be the official starter for the 2019 race.

“Darin was integral in bringing the FORTitude 10K to Fort Collins three years ago and is an advocate for community collaboration,” said FORTitude 10K race director Cliff Bosley. “We feel honored to have Darin at the 2019 race.”

Darin Atteberry has been the City Manager of Fort Collins since 2004 and has led the City government through a period of transformational change. In 2013, Atteberry was named Entrepreneur of the year by Colorado State University College of Business and recently received the Colorado Governor’s City-zenship medal, recognizing him as a leader who serves the public with innovation, operational excellence and progressive vision.

Atteberry was a member of the key team that brought the FORTitude 10K to Fort Collins in 2017. When Colorado State University Community and Outreach director Gary Ozzello went to Atteberry with a question—What could the college and the city do together to celebrate the opening of the new football stadium? The two came up with the idea of a road race and Ozzello approached the BOLDERBoulder organizers.

“The FORTitude Labor Day 10K Classic epitomizes the strong and healthy relationship that exists between the University, the City, and race organizers,” said Ozzello. “It continues to be an annual highlight to showcase the importance of collaboration that permeates our community.”

Atteberry joins an esteemed group of race official starters in the Fort Collins community including Fort Collins Mayor Wade Troxell and Colorado State University Senior Associate Athletic Director Doug Max.

“The FORTitude 10K is rapidly becoming a favorite Fort Collins tradition that brings visitors from across the state and country to experience Northern Colorado,” said Atteberry. “It’s yet another example of the City’s vibrant partnership with the university, and I’m honored to start this year’s race.”
